Even though Dipannita Sharma was born in Assam and her mother tongue is Assamese, she hadn’t done a single film in that language in all these years. But as they say, it’s better late than never. The supermodel-actress has finally made her Assamese movie debut with ‘Xhoihobote Dhemalite’ (‘Rainbow Fields’). What’s more, the film, helmed by National Award-winner Bidyut Kotoky, is one of the five entries competing for the Best Foreign Feature Film Award in this year’s Hollywood International Cinefest. The other entries in the category, which received over 400 submissions, include the Oscar-nominated Cambodian film, ‘Before The Fall’. ‘Xhoihobote Dhemalite’ is the only Indian representation at the fest, which is being held this weekend in Los Angeles. The Assamese film revolves around children who grow up amidst violence, which leaves an indelible mark on their minds. Also featuring Victor Banerjee, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami and Nikumoni Barua, the film is produced by Mumbai-based India Stories, and co-produced by Kotoky’s Dhruv Creative Productions and US-based Kurmasana Kreates. Dipannita says, “I’m so proud to be part of a product that’s taking Assam global. It is a beautiful story which people across countries and cultures will be able to relate to. I am also happy that I got the chance to play a never-seen-before character. The director had strictly forbidden me from wearing any make-up.” The Times of India : 26th. June,17
