FRIENDS OF ACTRESS BIDISHA FOUND HANGING AT HER GURGAON APARTMENT SAY “SHE WAS EXTREMELY DISTRESSED” :

A gated community in Sector 43, Sushant Apartments, home to few hundred families, has never seen this kind of police and media presence as in the last couple of days. It was in this society, in flat number 91, that Assamese singer and actress Bidisha Bezbaruah allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday evening.   But Bidisha’s neighbours hardly knew anything about her as she and her husband Nisheeth – who was arrested yesterday morning after Bidisha’s father lodged a complaint against him – had moved to the society on Sunday. A neighbour, who did not want to be named, shares, “They had moved into a ninth floor flat on Sunday and the incident happened just a day after that. None of us had any chance to interact with her or get to know who she was.”   Bidisha was from Guwahati, where she completed her schooling and then studied in Cotton College. Later, she did a postgraduate diploma in journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi. She was a known face in the Assamese entertainment industry, where she had acted in a few TV serials and shared the stage with popular names like Papon. She also made a fleeting appearance as a Bihu dancer in ‘Jagga Jasoos’.  In his complaint to the police, Bidisha’s father, Aswini, has alleged that her husband Nisheeth was having an extra-marital affair, which was a cause of tension between the two. Her husband was in Mumbai at the time of the alleged suicide. In the complaint, Aswini mentions, “On Monday, she called me around 5pm saying she wanted a divorce. I tried calming her down but she hung up, quite agitated. I called her husband in Mumbai urging him to go back to Gurgaon to her but he refused.”  According to the Gurgaon Police, Nisheeth called the broker who helped them get their flat in Sushant Apartments to go and check on Bidisha. Shashwati Goswami, Bidisha’s professor from IIMC and a family friend, says, “I have learnt that Nisheeth was apparently on the phone with Bidisha when she was attempting suicide and instead of calling the police, he sent the broker who’d helped them rent the Gurgaon apartment to check on her. The broker went with some men and broke into her flat, to find her hanging from the ceiling. I found out late in the evening and was there till 3am.” A post-mortem on Tuesday revealed that death was due to asphyxiation, consistent with how her body was found. A case of abetment to suicide (Section 306 of the IPC) against Bidisha’s husband was registered at the Sushant Lok police station. Nisheeth reached Gurgaon on Tuesday when he was questioned by the cops and he was later arrested on Wednesday morning.   The Times  of  India : 19th. July,17
