National Award winning singer Shreya Ghoshal is known for her mellifluous voice that can leave anyone into a trance. Shreya always wanted to become a playback singer in Bollywood. To realize her dream, she even participated in the popular singing reality show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ on Zee TV and went on to win it. When she appeared on the show, she had no idea her life is going to change forever. It was on the show when renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali noticed her potential and offered her a song in his romantic costume drama film ‘Devdas’. Rest is history. Shreya sang five songs in the film, but ‘Bari Piya’ transformed her into an overnight sensation. For her first song, the talented singer was awarded with the prestigious National Film Award, a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer and Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. Shreya was born on 12 March 1984 to a Bengali Hindu family in Murshidabad, West Bengal, but she grew up in Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota in Rajasthan. Her musical journey, which started from a small town, took her to the pinnacle of stardom and made her an internationally known singer. She was sixteen when she recorded her first song for ‘Devdas’ but since then she has given her deep and emotional voice to many regional languages films, including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Meitei, Marathi, and Bhojpuri. Currently, if reports are to be believed, Shreya charges in the range of Rs. 18 to Rs. 20 lakhs for per song, be it in any language.
