ODISHA’s SPRINTER DUTEE CHAND CAN NOW PARTICIPATE IN ALL CHAMPIONSHIPS AS CAS SUSPENDED IAAF REGULATION FOR HYPERANDROGENISM IN FEMALE ATHLETES :

Odisha’s sprinter Dutee Chand can now participate in all major championships for another two months as the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has suspended International Association of Athletic Federation’s (IAAF) regulation for hyperandrogenism in female athletes till September. The CAS today suspended the IAAF regulation and asked the apex athletics body to gather scientific evidence that high levels of hyper androgen in female athletes boost their performance and give them an edge over others. The Court has given the IAAF two months for the evidence. “Should the IAAF not file any scientific evidence within the additional two-month period (end of September) granted by the CAS, the hyperandrogenism regulations will be declared void,” said a media release of the CAS. Earlier in 2015, the CAS had asked IAAF to collect evidence within two years time when Dutee won a landmark case after the IAAF had banned her from international athletic events.  “I have plenty of events to take part in, including the World Championships and this decision of CAS has come as a big relief since I can completely focus on my training,” said Dutee to OTV. Talking about the case on hyperandrogenism she said if the case is re-opened after two months she will fight again. “Since feelings like love cannot be proven based on just hormones, I feel talent and passion cannot be gauged with hormone levels. But if they come up with a scientific explanation I will fight in the CAS again and hopefully win,” Dutee said. Meanwhile, even though she had narrowly missed the 11.26 s target to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in London, Dutee has been invited to run in the event to be held from August 4-13. She got the chance owing to her best of 11.30 s this season at the Indian Grand Prix held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 15. The Odisha TV Bureau : 29th. July,17
