WHEN SEXUAL HARASSMENT BY THE TEACHERS TO THE STUDENTS WILL BE STOPPED IN OUR SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES ?

It is very sad and shameful that repeated allegations of  sexual harassment by the teachers to the students in the schools and colleges are coming to the news.  This can be stopped by imposition of severe punishment on the teachers i.e. imprisonment as per law and  immediate termination from service followed by enquiry.  These teachers should be blacklisted and their pictures should be  displayed in the Police Stations and at the gate of the Universities and Schools.  It is very sad that an Assistant Professor of reputed Ravenshaw University in Odisha was suspended  for allegedly sexually harassing a student. The university Vice Chancellor Prakash Sarangi suspended Assistant Professor of Department of Chemistry Alekh Kumar Sutar along with issuing a show cause notice to him after the girl student brought allegation of sexual harassment against him before the varsity authority.  During the period of suspension, Prof Sutar will not be allowed to leave the headquarters without obtaining the permission of authority and he will be entitled to the payment of subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule 90 of Orissa Service Code. The victim alleged Prof Sutar of harassing her mentally and sexually by making derogatory remarks in the campus. “He was harassing me both mentally and sexually. I decided to file a written complaint when his behaviour towards me became irresistible. I hope the VC will take the appropriate action,” the girl student said. The disciplinary committee of Ravenshaw University is probing the matter. The action will be taken on basis of the probe report by the committee, said VC Prakash Sarangi.  The Odisha Sun Times Bureau : 30th. July,17
